How to disable the automatic zoom on laptop touchpad on any Asus, Dell or Toshiba

The below steps work on all Dell, HP, Acer, Asus and Toshiba laptops as the problem is with the Synaptics touchpad software and is not a Windows related problem.

Simply…

Go to Start > Control Panel > Mouse

Choose the Device Settings tab on the right.

Click the Settings… button

On the left there is a menu. Choose Pinch Zoom. Then UNCHECK the “Enable Pinch Zoom” box.

Click Apply at the bottom and OK to exit and save settings and your Done!

Thank you so much for this post. What a stupid auto set up for new dells. I was a pure notebook mouse user until this one and this function and I struggled to find a fix for it, so fell in love with my wireless mouse and keyboard and in recently losing my usb device for them, had to get round to looking for a fix. Much appreciated!!! Mouse lover going back to touchpad queen.

I cannot find the “device setting” tab in my window. Is there a way I can fix the zoom on my touch pad? I have no clue what causes it to zoom in or out but its terribly irritating. Thanks

If you have a Dell Computer (Win 7 or Vista) You should see toolbar at the top of the Mouse settings called “Dell Touchpad”. Click it, then click on the touchpad picture, then click on “Gesture Settings” and you can turn off Zoom.
If you click the option above “Gesture Settings”, you can even disable the touchpad scrolling gesture.

Amy, I finally found this! Go to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and click on the up arrow to “show hidden icons.” Then open ASUS smart gesture. Unclick the Zoom box.

Thank You for this post. The automatic zoom has been driving me crazy since I bought this new Toshiba laptop. I found other posts off Google but they didn’t give specific instructions on how to find the precise setting that needed to be changed, but this post was exact. Thank You! Much love coming from here. Hopefully Toshiba will catch on and change this automatic setting from the get go, the board of directors needs to be alerted.
